Color path game word cards

Read the word, then move to that color

Turn a color path board game into reading practice. Each card shows one or two color squares and a word. A player takes a card, reads the word out loud, and moves to the next square of that color. No board at home? Print the plain path board that comes with the cards.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type this week’s words.
  2. Choose how many cards and how many go on a page.
  3. Print on thick paper and cut the cards apart.
  4. Play on the printed path board, or on a color path board game you own.

The reading skill

The move is the reward for reading the word. Every turn is one word read out loud, and a short list comes around again and again in one game.

Six colors

The cards use red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. About one card in four has two squares for a longer move.

In black and white

Each square is printed as an outline with the name of its color inside, to color with crayons before you play.

Good questions

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

Do I need a board game?

No. Turn on “A path board to play on” and a plain board of colored squares is printed with the cards.

How many cards do I need?

Sixteen is enough for a short game. The pile is used again when it runs out.

What paper should I use?

Thick paper or card works best. Plain paper works too if you glue it to a cereal box first.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
