The goal: on day 10 your child finds the vowel team or the bossy r, and reads words like play, star, bird and cloud never seen before.
For the child who reads cake, feet, rain and boat, but stops at play, star, bird and cloud. About five minutes a day from you.
That is the goal, not a promise. Some children have these in a week, and some need the ten days twice. The plan teaches ay, ea, ow, ar, or, er, ir, ur, oi, oy and ou.

“star” read with the a of cat.
The team first: one line, one sound. Then the word.
Your child reads cat, and then reads star with the a of cat, and the word comes out wrong. That does not mean your child is not trying. In star the r is bossy: it changes the vowel in front of it. In play and cloud two letters work as a team. So this plan teaches one habit: find the team first.
See it and hear itThis is the day 2 track your child works with. It waits, then gives the answer. Nothing listens back.
Not every child who is stuck on vowel teams is stuck in the same place. Day 1 is a four-minute check that shows you which day to start on.
The first teams are newReads ay, ea and ow one letter at a time. Start at day 2.
play → “pla-y”
ay, ea, ow are steadyReads play and eat, but stops at star, bird and coin. Start at day 6.
bird → ?
Go to the story on day 9, then do the final check.
Silent e is hardWords like cake and rain come first. Cap to Cape is the place to start.

The ten daysIt starts where Cap to Cape ends. First, new spellings of long sounds your child knows: ay (as in rain), ea (as in feet), ow (as in boat). Then the bossy r: ar and or, then er, ir and ur. Then two new sounds: oi and oy, then ou and ow as in cow, and a story.
Everything in your packIt is more than worksheets. It is the pages, someone showing you each day, and a voice that works with your child while you stay nearby.

Ten days of pages with the hand-drawn Sound It Out friends. One line under a team that makes one sound, a dot under every other sound. Color and ink-saving black and white, US Letter and A4.

One a day, about a minute. You hear each team’s real sound, ay, ea, ar, oi, and see it under one line, before you start. With captions.
Days 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8. The voice asks your child to find the team, waits, then sounds out play, star or coin so your child can check alone.

Day 1 shows whether the first teams are new or only the bossy r. Day 10 uses team words that appear on no other page of the book.
Each card shows a team, a word and a picture: ay in hay, ea in leaf, ow in bowl, ar in star, or in fork, oi in coin.
Enter your day 1 and day 10 numbers to see which teams moved, and whether Rabbit and Sunset is next.

Three steps to begin, and a code to scan for the welcome video. You are never left wondering what to do first.

One star to color for each day.

With your child’s name, and signed by you.

It is not a promise: some children have the teams in a week, some need two rounds. It covers ay, ea, ow, ar, or, er, ir, ur, oi, oy and ou; igh, oo, ew and aw come later. Reading teams letter by letter is not a sign of dyslexia on its own; for a child of eight or older, or one who finds reading hard in other ways too, talk to the teacher. It is paper, not an app. A child not yet steady on silent e words starts with Cap to Cape; the free check says so. You need a printer and scissors.
A printer for the pages, crayons, a pencil, and scissors to cut out the team cards. No device for your child.
Two letters that work together and make one vowel sound: ay in play, ea in eat, ow in snow, oi in coin, ou in cloud. Your child learns to find the team first, then read the word.
When an r comes right after a vowel, it changes the vowel’s sound: car, corn, her, bird, turn. Schools also call these r-controlled vowels. They are the same thing.
Because ow has two sounds. This plan teaches snow on day 4 and cow on day 9. If one sound does not make a word, your child tries the other.
Most children who need this are six to eight. Your child should already read silent e words and words with ee, ai and oa. The free check shows you whether that step is steady.
Five minutes or so: a short first job with you, then the track or the page alone, then three team words read to you.
Lay the ar card beside the word and ask: find the team, what sound does it make? Then do the day again tomorrow. The day 5 check shows when to move on.
You can stop there. If you want daily practice to keep going, The One Sheet gives your child one sheet a day, made from what you tell us. It is a separate plan, $9.99 a month, and you can cancel any time.
No. Nothing in this pack watches, listens to or records your child. You are the one who listens.
