A 10-day spelling plan · ages 5 to 7

Hear It, Write It

The goal: on day 10 your child writes short words they have never practiced, every sound in the right order, and reads each one back to check it.

For the child who can read “sun” and “hat” but cannot write them. About five minutes a day from you.

That is the goal, not a promise. Some children are sure by day 6, and some need the ten days twice. Reading before spelling is the usual order at five and six.

From “I can’t spell it” to every sound on the page

Today
s?n

Reads “sun.” Writes “sn,” or “snu,” or nothing.

Day 10
sun

One sound, one letter. Then your child reads it back to check it alone.

Your child reads the word without trouble. Then you say “write it,” and a sound goes missing, or the letters come out in the wrong order, or the pencil just stops. That does not mean your child is not trying. Spelling is reading backwards, and it needs its own practice.

Hear a real sound track

This is the day 6 track your child works with. It waits, then gives the answer. Nothing listens back.

Step one is different

First, find where the spelling gets stuck

A child who can read but cannot spell is stuck in one of a few places, and each needs a different push. Day 1 is a short check that points to the most likely one.

Hearing every sound

A sound never makes it to the paper.

sun → “sn”
Picking the letter

Hears the sound, but is not sure which letter writes it. Most often the middle one.

bed → “bid”
🔁Keeping the order

Knows the sounds and the letters, but they come out mixed.

pot → “pto”
👍Just needs the habit

Can do it with help. Needs a way to check alone.

Your result tells you which days to do, and which to do twice. No starting at page one for no reason.

Day 10Eight new wordsWords your child has never practiced, written from your voice with no boxes. You mark them yourself.

Every day uses the same move: say it, tap it, write it, read it back. First one sound at a time, in boxes. Then the whole word. Then the boxes go away.

Try all ten days. If it is not right, you get your money back.

Do the plan with your child. If it is not right for you, write to hello@sounditoutreading.com within 30 days of buying and we will give you your money back. You keep the pages.

Not sure yet? Do the free 3-minute check. It tells you whether this plan fits your child before you spend anything.

What this is not

It is not a promise. Some children are sure by day 6. Some need the ten days twice. It is not a test for dyslexia or for anything else; if your child is seven or older and short words are still very hard after a second round, tell the teacher what you saw. It is not an app, and your child does not need a screen. It covers one thing: short words that are spelled the way they sound, one letter for each sound. It does not teach spelling rules or the weekly school list. You need a printer.

Questions

Do I need a printer?

Yes. The pages are made to be printed once, on plain paper. The black-and-white copy uses very little ink.

Is it normal to read but not spell?

Yes. Spelling asks more of a child than reading does, so it usually comes later. At five and six it is the usual order. This plan is practice for it. If your child is seven or older and short words are still very hard, do the plan and tell the teacher what you see.

How old should my child be?

Most children who need this are five to seven. Your child should already know most of the letter sounds and be able to read short words like “sun.” Not sure? Do the free check.

Which words does it cover?

Short words of two and three sounds that are spelled the way they sound: sun, map, bed, jet. One letter for each sound. It leaves out words like “the” and “said,” and words where two letters can write the same sound.

Will it help with the school spelling list?

It teaches the skill under the list: hearing every sound in a word and writing a letter for each one. It does not teach the words on your school’s list, and it does not teach spelling rules.

How much of my time does it take?

About two minutes at the start of each day’s page, and a minute at the end when your child shows you three things. Day 1 and day 10 are checks of about four minutes each.

What if my child cannot do a day?

Stop, and do the same page again tomorrow. The halfway check on day 5 tells you whether to go on or go back.

Does anything record my child?

No. Nothing in this pack watches, listens to or records your child. You are the one who listens.

How do I get the videos and sound tracks?

The “start here” page of the book has a code to scan with your phone, and a short link. They open in your browser. There is nothing to install.

What if it is not right for us?

Write to hello@sounditoutreading.com within 30 days of buying and we will refund you. You do not need to give a reason, and you keep the pages.
