A 10-day letter plan · ages 4 to 6

Know Every Letter

The goal: on day 10 your child names all 26 letters, big and small, even in a typeface never seen in the book.

For the child who cannot name many letters yet, mixes them up, or knows the big letters but not the small ones. About five minutes a day from you.

That is the goal, not a promise. Some children know every letter in ten days, and some need the ten days twice. Children learn the letters at very different times between three and six.

Where you are, and where we are going

From “I don’t know that one” to all 26 letters

Today

Knows a few letters, mixes up b and d, and does not know most of the small letters.

Day 10

Names all 26 letters, big and small, in a typeface never seen in the book.

Letters are hard to tell apart: many are the same shape turned or flipped. A child who meets all 26 at once, in a song or on a poster, never gets the time to tell them apart. Five letters a day, with look-alikes kept apart, gives that time.

Step one is different

First, find which letters are known

Day 1 is a four-minute check: your child names the big letters and the small letters. It shows where to start, and which letters to spend time on.

Few letters yet

Knows only a handful of letters, often the ones in their name.

“my 5 year old doesn’t know letters”
🔡Big but not small

Knows the capitals, but the small letters are new.

🔄Look-alikes

Mixes up b and d, p and q, n and u.

🔊Sounds, not names

Says the sound instead of the name. That is a good sign, and names come quickly.

Your result tells you where to start and which letters need time.

30days
Try all ten days. If it is not right, you get your money back.

Do the plan with your child. If it is not right for you, write to hello@sounditoutreading.com within 30 days of buying and we will give you your money back. You keep the pages.

Not sure yet? Do the free 3-minute check. It tells you whether this plan fits your child before you spend anything.

What this is not

It is not a promise. Some children need the ten days twice. It teaches the names of the letters, not their sounds and not reading: the sounds come next, in Eight Sounds That Stay. It is not a test for any learning difficulty. It is not an app, and your child does not need a screen. You need a printer, a pencil and crayons.

Questions

Do I need a printer?

Yes. The pages are made to be printed once, on plain paper. The black-and-white copy uses very little ink.

My 5 year old doesn’t know letters. Is that normal?

Children learn the letters at very different times between three and six. If your child is in kindergarten and knows very few letters, do the plan and tell the teacher what you see.

Should I teach letter names or letter sounds first?

Both are needed, and many children learn them side by side. This plan teaches the names and how to know each letter on sight. If your child already says sounds, that is a good sign: the names usually come quickly. The sounds are our plan Eight Sounds That Stay.

Why not the whole alphabet at once?

Many letters look alike. Seen all at once, they blur together. Five a day, with look-alikes days apart, gives your child time to tell them apart.

How much of my time does it take?

About two minutes at the start of each day’s page, and a minute at the end. Day 1 and day 10 are checks of about four minutes each.

What if my child cannot do a day?

Stop, and do the same page again tomorrow. Five letters known well are worth more than ten half known.

What comes after the ten days?

You can stop there. If you want daily practice to keep going, The One Sheet gives your child one sheet a day, made from what you tell us. It is a separate plan, $9.99 a month, and you can cancel any time.

Does anything record my child?

No. Nothing in this pack watches, listens to or records your child. You are the one who listens.

How do I get the videos?

The “start here” page of the book has a code to scan with your phone, and a short link. They open in your browser. There is nothing to install.

What if it is not right for us?

Write to hello@sounditoutreading.com within 30 days of buying and we will refund you. You do not need to give a reason, and you keep the pages.
