The goal: on day 10 your child says the sound of eight letters, in any order, a day after the last lesson, and uses them to read short words never seen before.
For the child who does not know the letter sounds yet, says the names instead, or learns a sound today and has lost it by tomorrow. About five minutes a day from you.
That is the goal, not a promise. It is eight sounds, not all 26. Some children hold all eight by day 7, and some need the ten days twice. Losing a sound overnight is common at four, five and six.

Known on Monday. Gone on Tuesday. Or a letter name where a sound should be.
All eight, in any order, a day later. And short words read with them.
You taught the sounds. Your child knew them. The next morning half of them were gone. That does not mean your child is not trying, and it does not mean you taught them badly. A sound that is met once and not brought back is lost: that is how memory works at this age. So this plan teaches few sounds, and brings every one of them back every single day.
See it and hear itThis is the day 6 track your child works with. It waits, then gives the answer. Nothing listens back.
A child can be stuck on letter sounds in different ways, and each one needs a different start. Day 1 is a three-minute check that points to the most likely one.
Some sounds are there, most are not yet. Start at day 2 and go slowly.
Says the namesAsked for a sound, your child says the name of the letter.
the name, not the sound
Right on Monday, gone on Tuesday. Needs every sound brought back every day.
Then this plan is too easy. The check says so, and sends you to blending.

The ten daysTwo new sounds a day at most. Every day starts with every sound so far, in a new order. The two that sound alike, as in moon and as in nest, are taught on different days. From day 6 the sounds are used to read real words, so they have a purpose.
Everything in your packIt is more than worksheets. It is the pages, someone showing you each day, and a voice that works with your child while you step away.

Ten days of pages with the hand-drawn Sound It Out friends, and a hand-drawn picture for every sound. Color and ink-saving black and white, US Letter and A4.

About a minute each. You see what to do before you do it. Every single sound in them is a real recording, checked in American pronunciation.
On days 6, 7 and 8, when your child reads words. Press play and step away. The voice says what to do, waits, then says each sound and the word so your child can check it alone.

Day 1 shows where to start. Day 10 is done a day after the last lesson, with the eight sounds in a new order and six words your child has never seen, so you can see what has stayed.
On your phone, under the videos: tap a letter, hear its real sound. No guessing how a sound should be said. And one page in the book shows all eight with their picture and their action.
After day 10 you type in your numbers. It shows where your child started, where they are now, and the next step.

Three steps to begin, and a code to scan for the welcome video. You are never left wondering what to do first.

One star to color for each day.

With your child’s name, and signed by you.
Scan the code in the book. No app to install, no password to remember.

Three steps in the yellow box. Do job 1 together.
Your child carries on with the page: pictures to sort, letters to find and trace, and a sound track on three days.
Show and starA few sounds or words said to you. One star colored.
“With your grown-up, 2 minutes” is printed on every page. Days 1, 5 and 10 are checks, and those need you for the whole page. A young child may need you nearby on other days too. If a day is easy, do the next one. If a day is hard, do it again tomorrow.

It is not a promise. Some children hold all eight sounds by day 7. Some need the ten days twice. It is not all 26 letters: it is the first eight sounds, s, a, t, p, i, n, m and d, made firm, and the way of working that you then carry on with. It does not teach capital letters or handwriting. It is not a test for dyslexia or anything else, and slow letter sounds on their own do not mean a child has it. If your child is six or older and sounds still will not stay after a second round, tell the teacher as well. It is not an app, and your child does not need a screen. You need a printer.
Yes. The pages are made to be printed once, on plain paper. The black-and-white copy uses very little ink.
Because the complaint is that sounds do not stay, and 26 in ten days would not stay either. These eight (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d) are the ones that make the most short words, so your child can start reading with them. After the ten days you carry on the same way with the rest. Our $1 letter sounds packs go on from here.
Most often because each one was met once or twice and then left. At four, five and six, something that is not brought back the next day is lost. That is common, and it is not a lack of effort. In this plan every day starts with every sound so far, and each sound has a picture and a hand action to hold on to.
No, names are useful. But reading uses the sounds, and a child who answers with a name when asked for a sound needs the two pulled apart. The day 1 check looks for exactly this, and the plan tells you what to say each time a name comes.
You do not have to guess. Under the videos are the eight letters: tap one and you hear its sound, recorded and checked in American pronunciation. The quick sounds are kept tiny, with nothing added on the end.
Most children who need this are four to six. Your child does not need to know any letters to begin. Not sure it fits? Do the free check.
About two minutes at the start of each day’s page, and a minute at the end when your child says a few sounds or words to you. Day 1 and day 10 are checks of about three minutes each.
Stop, and do the same page again tomorrow. Do not add new sounds while the old ones are still slipping. The halfway check on day 5 tells you whether to go on or go back.
No. Nothing in this pack watches, listens to or records your child. You are the one who listens.
The “start here” page of the book has a code to scan with your phone, and a short link. They open in your browser. There is nothing to install.
Write to hello@sounditoutreading.com within 30 days of buying and we will refund you. You do not need to give a reason, and you keep the pages.
