One printable reading sheet a day

The One Sheet

Free worksheets give you paper. This gives you the next right sheet, every day.

Print one sheet. Sit with your child for a few minutes at the start. Say how it went. The next sheet is chosen from what you said.

It does not promise a result by a date. It takes the deciding off you: what to print, what comes next, and what to do after a hard day.

Where you are

Does this sound like your house?

You are not short of worksheets. You are short of someone to say which one.

🧱Your child is stuck

Reading is not moving, and you cannot see why.

⏳You have no time

There is dinner, work and bedtime. There is no hour to plan a lesson.

🧭You do not know what comes next

Nobody showed you how reading is taught, or in what order.

🗂️You have a pile of printed pages

Some were too easy. Some were too hard. They did not add up to anything.

The paper was never the problem. Knowing which sheet comes next was.
Why this is different

You say how it went. It answers in three lines.

After each sheet you choose Easy, Just right or Hard. You can also write what you noticed, in your own words. Your family page answers, and picks the next sheet from what you said.

Day 1What the parent saidHardhelp with 3 or more words

She mixed up b and d. She could not read jump.

What the family page answered

You saidyour child mixed up “b” and “d”, and missed “jump”.

So the next sheet isThe sounds h b f l, and ff ll ss: the practice sheet (sheet 8).

It helps withtelling “b” and “d” apart. Your child reads words with each one side by side, so both have to be looked at. Nothing new is added until this feels easy.

That is the whole idea. You are the eyes. You say what you saw, and the next sheet answers it, like a good teacher would.

And the days after that

If the same trouble comes up twice, the next sheet is a different kind of sheet. After a hard sheet it goes back to an easier one, then returns.

Day 2What the parent saidJust righthelp with 1 or 2 words

She mixed up b and d again.

What the family page answered

You saidyour child mixed up “b” and “d”.

So the next sheet isThe sounds h b f l, and ff ll ss: the story sheet (sheet 9).

It helps withtelling “b” and “d” apart. Your child reads words with each one side by side, so both have to be looked at. Nothing new is added until this feels easy.

This is a different kind of sheet, because the same thing came up twice.

Day 3What the parent saidEasyread every word, no help

Nothing written in the note box.

What the family page answered

You saidevery word was right, with no help.

So the next sheet issh: the sheet for the sound “sh” (sheet 1).

It helps withtrying again the sheet that was hard, now that the easier one went well.

These are real answers from the family page. A test family started on the “sh” sheet, and day 1 was hard.

A day has four small parts

Print

Open your family page. Today’s sheet is waiting. Print that one sheet.

🤝Sit together

A sheet takes a few minutes of your time at the start.

✍️Say how it went

Easy, Just right or Hard. Add a note if you saw something.

📄Get the next sheet

Three lines tell you what it is and why.

You do not choose the worksheet. If a sheet was too easy or too hard, you say so, and the next one is picked from that.

The real sheets

The same four boxes on every sheet

The page looks the same every day. Only the reading is new.

A real sheet: the sound sh
  1. Sounds“Say each sound.”
  2. Words“Touch each dot. Say the sounds. Slide them together.”
  3. Read“Read each sentence out loud. Then read it again, smoothly.”
  4. Write“Trace each word. Say the sounds as you write.”
  5. And a strip for youEasy, just right or hard. Mark it when the sheet is done.

A real sheet, for the sound “sh”. The words in quotes are printed on it.

Three more real sheets, from other places on the road

A real sheet: the sounds g, o, c and k
Letter soundsOne new sound, then words made with it.
A real sheet: or and ore
More vowel soundsThe same four boxes, harder words.
A real sheet: words with two beats
Longer wordsRead in parts, then as a whole word.

Every sentence and story on a sheet uses only words your child has already been taught on an earlier sheet.

Who should not buy this

A parent whose child is stuck on one single thing. If it is only b and d, or only joining sounds into a word, or only a handful of words that will not stay, a monthly plan is more than you need. The matching $19 ten-day plan, or a free check, will serve you better. Find the one thing to work on first. It is free and takes two minutes.

A parent who wants a screen to do the teaching. This is paper, and you sit with your child at the start of each sheet. It does not replace a teacher, and it does not diagnose anything.

The honest question

Why pay, when worksheets are free?

Free packs are good. We give many away on this site. But a pack cannot know your child. It cannot say which page to print tomorrow, or what to do when today went badly. That choosing is the hard part, and it lands on you every single day.

The One Sheet does the choosing. One sheet, the right one, with the reason in plain words. That is what the $9.99 is for.

Questions

What do I need?

A printer and about five minutes. A pencil for your child. There is nothing to install.

What age is it for?

About 4 to 8, wherever the starting check places your child.

What if my child already reads a bit?

Then the starting check places your child further along the road. The sheets begin there. Nothing before it is repeated.

How long does a sheet take?

A few minutes of your time at the start. Children work at different speeds, so we do not put a number on your child’s part.

What if a sheet is too hard?

Say so. Choose Hard. The next sheet goes back to an easier one, and then returns to the hard one.

How do I cancel?

Any time. Open your orders page at Polar, the shop that handles our payments, and cancel there. Or write to hello@sounditoutreading.com and we will stop it for you.

Is my child’s information safe?

The family page stores a nickname and the reading record. Nothing else. Nothing watches, listens to or records your child.

Why is it not free?

The free packs on this site are free, and they are paper. This is a different thing: a page that keeps your child’s place, takes in what you said, and picks the next sheet, every day. That takes work to build and to keep running, and the monthly price pays for it.

Does it teach math or handwriting?

No. It is for reading. Each sheet has a Write box, where your child traces or writes words from that sheet.
