  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type this week’s words.
  2. Choose how many word cards and how many Zap! cards.
  3. Print. Cut the cards apart and put them in a cup or a small box.
  4. Tape the label on the cup and play by the rules on the last page.

How to play

Take turns. Pull out one card and read the word out loud. Read it right and keep it. On a Zap! card, put all your cards back. When the time is up, the player with the most cards wins.

The reading skill

The game is fast practice in reading words on sight. Cards go back into the cup again and again, so the same words are read many times in five minutes.

Fair for mixed ages

A Zap! card can send the best reader back to no cards, so a younger child can still win.

Good questions

Can I use my own words?
