The first words a child can sound out
Make a two letter words worksheet. Two letter words such as at, in, up and on are the first words a child can sound out: one vowel, one consonant, two sounds to push together. Your child traces each word, reads the list, builds the word or finds the missing letter. When these are easy, pick a set of three letter words from the same list.
Your worksheet:
A word with two sounds is the easiest word to blend. A child who can push a and t together into at is ready for c, a, t: cat.
At, an, am, in, it, on, up, us, if and ox. Every letter says its usual sound, so each word can be sounded out. Words such as to, do, me and go are left out, because their vowels say another sound.
At, an, am, in, it, on, up, us, if and ox.
In the same word list: short a, short e, short i, short o and short u words, and the word families. The CVC word maker has them too.
