Sight word phrase card maker

Short phrases made of sight words

Print short phrases to read in one breath: “look at me”, “we can go”, “come with me”. Every phrase is made only of first sight words, so a child who knows the words can practice reading them smoothly together. Print cards to cut out, or a one-page list with a star to color for each phrase.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose phrases with Set 1, with Set 1 and 2, short sentences, or type your own.
  2. Choose cards to cut out or a list on one page.
  3. Print.
  4. Read each phrase in one breath, without stopping between the words.

The reading skill

Fluency is reading groups of words together, the way we talk. Phrases of two to five known words are the first step from word-by-word reading to smooth reading.

Only words your child knows

Set 1 phrases use only the 20 words of Sight Words Set 1. Set 2 phrases add the 20 words of Set 2. Nothing else is in them.

A quick daily routine

Read five cards a day. Put the ones read smoothly in one pile and the others back in the deck for tomorrow.
