Roll and write worksheet maker

Roll the die, write the word, race to the star

Make a roll and write page for six words. Each word sits under one face of a die. Your child rolls, finds the column, reads the word, and traces or writes it in the lowest empty box. The first word to reach the star wins.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type six words.
  2. Choose tracing or writing, and how many boxes are in each column.
  3. Print the page and find a die.
  4. Roll, read, write. Play until one column is full.

The reading skill

Each roll is one word read and one word written, so the six words are met again and again in a few minutes. Writing a word while saying it helps it stick.

Trace first, then write

Tracing shows the word in dotted letters in every box. Writing leaves the boxes empty, with the word at the bottom of the column to copy.

A game with no loser

The words race each other, not the players. Two children can share a page and take turns to roll.

Good questions

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

What do I need?

One die and a pencil or crayons. No die at home? Write 1 to 6 on scraps of paper and pull one from a cup.

What if I type fewer than six words?

The words are used again, so a word may sit under two numbers. The page says so.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
