How to make your worksheet
- Open the CVC word generator and pick a short vowel or word family to focus on.
- Choose the activity called word list to read, so the words appear ready to sound out.
- Print the page, or press New version first for a fresh list of words.
- Sit with your child and point to each word as they sound it out loud.
Using the list at home
Set the list where your child can see it, such as on the table. Point to one word at a time for your child to sound out. Let your child read the whole list together once, then try it alone. Short, regular turns with the list work well for practice.
Making the list easier or harder
Pick one short vowel, such as short a, for a first list. Once those words feel easy, press New version for a fresh list with the same vowel. You can also switch to a new vowel or word family. Mixing vowels on one list makes the practice harder for your child. Your child must listen closely to the middle sound.
What to try next
Once your child reads the list smoothly, try covering a word and asking them to recall it. Point out small word families inside the list, such as words ending in at. Ask your child to find other words with the same ending. A list your child knows well makes a good warm up before a new, harder list.
