Go Fish word card maker

Ask for a word, make a pair, read it out loud

Make a Go Fish deck for reading practice. Every word is printed two times, or four times for the longer game. Players ask each other for words by reading them from their cards, and read each pair out loud when they put it down.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type this week’s words.
  2. Choose pairs or sets of four, and how many different words.
  3. Print on thick paper and cut the cards apart.
  4. Play by the rules on the last page.

The reading skill

To ask for a card, a player has to read a word from their own hand out loud, and the other player has to find that word in theirs. Each word is read many times in one game.

No matching by color

The two cards of a pair do not share a color, so the only way to find a pair is to read the words.

How many words

Eight words in pairs make a quick game for two. Use more words, or sets of four, for three or four players.

Good questions

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

How many cards are in the deck?

Two or four for each word. Eight words in pairs make sixteen cards.

Can the words be seen through the paper?

Print on thick paper or card, or glue the sheet to colored paper before cutting.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
