Old Maid word card maker

Make pairs, read them, and do not keep the odd card

Make a deck for Odd Card Out, a reading game played like Old Maid. Every word is printed two times, and one card has no partner. Players pull cards from each other, put down pairs and read them out loud. In the end one player holds the odd card.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words”.
  2. Choose how many different words. Seven words make fifteen cards.
  3. Print on thick paper and cut the cards apart.
  4. Play by the rules on the last page.

The reading skill

A pair only counts when the word is read out loud. The game is short, so it gets played again, and the same words are read again.

A kind ending

Nobody is out. The game ends when the pairs are down, the cards are mixed, and the next round starts.

The odd card

The odd card shows one of our crayon friends, so it is easy to spot.
