Cup stacking word labels

Read the word on a cup, then stack it

Make a stack and read game with paper or plastic cups. Print the word labels, cut them out and tape one on each cup. A player picks up a cup, reads its word out loud, and uses the cup to build a tower.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words”.
  2. Choose how many labels.
  3. Print and cut the labels apart.
  4. Tape one label on the side of each cup.

The reading skill

A cup can only be stacked after its word is read out loud, so every cup in the tower is a word read. Building keeps the hands busy while the reading gets done.

The size

A label is about one and three quarter inches wide and one and a quarter inches tall.

A short list is fine

A list with fewer words than labels is used again and again, which is good practice.
