Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word list, or choose “Type your own words” and type them.
  2. Choose header cards for the letters you use, for all 26 letters, or none.
  3. Choose how many cards go on a page.
  4. Print and cut on the dashed lines. Put each word under its letter.

The reading skill

A word wall keeps the words a child is learning in one place, sorted by first letter. To find a word, the child says it, hears the first sound and looks under that letter.

Add a few at a time

Put up only the words that have been taught. Five new words a week is plenty.

Pictures

Turn on pictures and a word that has one of our drawings shows it beside the word.

Good questions

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

How big are the cards?

With five on a page each card is as wide as the page and about 1.5 inches tall. Eight on a page gives half-width cards.

Are the cards in order?

Yes. With header cards on, the words are sorted by first letter and each group starts with its header.

Can I print in black and white?

Yes. Choose “Black and white” under “Print in”. Every picture becomes a line drawing your child can color in.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
