A page for the child to point at, a record sheet for you

Find out which letters and sounds a child knows. You get a page of big letters for the child to point at, and a record sheet for you with three boxes for each letter: knows the name, knows the sound, writes it.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose small letters or capitals. Keep sh, ch, th and qu if you want them.
  2. Keep the mixed-up order, so a child cannot lean on the alphabet song.
  3. Print both pages. Show the child the big letters; you mark the record sheet.
  4. Press “New version” for a new order next time.

How to use it

Point to a letter and ask “What sound does it make?” Mark it only when the answer comes at once. Stop when your child is tired. Come back to the rest another day.

What to do with the result

The letters with no mark are the ones to teach next. Pick three or four and work on them for a week.

Good questions

Why are the letters out of order?

Many children can sing the alphabet without knowing the letters. A mixed-up order shows what is really known.

Is my child’s name stored?

No. It is printed on your page and never leaves your device.

Can I print it again later?

Yes. Print it again in a few weeks and compare the two sheets.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
