Tracing worksheet generator

Pick the letters, choose dotted or dashed, print

Make your own letter tracing worksheets. Pick the letters your child is learning, or the whole alphabet, and print dotted letters on lines with a green dot where each letter starts.

To keep a copy, choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. What you type stays on your device: it is not sent to us and not saved.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a ready set: small letters, capital letters, or both together. Or type just the letters you want.
  2. Choose the size and whether to show start dots and arrows.
  3. Choose how many lines of each letter you want.
  4. Print. Each line starts with letters to trace and leaves room to write alone.

Which letters first?

You do not have to go from a to z. Many reading programs start with s, a, t, p, i, n because a child can build real words from them right away: sat, pin, tap. Type those six letters to make a first page.

Small letters before capitals

Almost every word your child reads is in small letters. Capitals are needed for the first letter of a name and a sentence. Most children do well learning the small letters first.

Good questions

How do I make my own tracing worksheet?

Pick a letter set or type your own letters above, choose the size, and press Print. The page is made in your browser, free.

Yes. Dotted letters are the first choice here. You can also choose dashed letters or light gray letters.
