How to make your worksheet

  1. Type your child’s name. Use a capital for the first letter and small letters for the rest, the way the name is written at school.
  2. Choose the size. Large letters suit a 3 or 4 year old; smaller letters suit kindergarten and first grade.
  3. Keep the green start dots and arrows on. They show where each letter begins and which way the pencil goes.
  4. Print. The last lines are empty, so your child can write the name alone after tracing it.

How to use a name tracing worksheet

Say the name of each letter as your child traces it, and watch where the pencil starts. A letter that starts at the top is faster to write and easier to read later. A few minutes a day is enough. When the tracing looks easy, fold the page so only the empty lines show.

For a whole class

Type one name on each line and choose “One page for each name”. You get a page for every child in one print job.

Good questions

How do I make a free name tracing worksheet?

Type the name in the box above, choose the size and the kind of letters, and press Print. The worksheet is made in your browser. It is free and you do not need an account.

Can I save the name tracing sheet as a PDF?

Yes. Press Print and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. You can then print it again or send it to someone.

Is my child’s name sent or stored anywhere?

No. The page draws the worksheet on your own device. What you type is not sent to us and is not saved.

Should the name be in capitals or small letters?

Most American kindergartens teach a capital first letter and small letters after it, as in Emma. Type it the way you want your child to write it.

How many times should my child trace the name?

A few careful lines are better than a full page done in a hurry. Stop while it still looks neat, and end with one line written alone.
