How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick the skill your child is working on, from short CVC words up to long vowel teams.
  2. Choose a reading list, strips to cut out, read-and-draw boxes, or a mixed-up sentence to put in order.
  3. Print. Read the first sentence together, then let your child try the next one alone.

What makes a sentence decodable

A sentence is decodable for a child when it uses only the letter sounds that child has learned, plus a few common words taught by sight, such as “the” and “is”. That is why the sentences are grouped by skill.

These are written, not made by a machine

The sentences come from our own reading materials and were checked word by word. The list for each skill is short on purpose. For more, choose “My own sentences” and type them.
