Circle the rhyme, find the odd one out, or match

Make rhyming worksheets with pictures. Your child says the name of each picture and listens to how the words end. Choose a page to circle the picture that rhymes, to cross out the one that does not rhyme, or to draw a line between two pictures that rhyme. You can type your own rhyming words too.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose the kind of page: circle the rhyme, odd one out, or match.
  2. Use our rhyming pictures, or type your own groups of rhyming words.
  3. Turn on the words under the pictures if your child is ready to read them.
  4. Print. Say each picture out loud together, then let your child try.

The reading skill

Rhyming is hearing that two words end with the same sounds. A child who can hear that cat and hat end the same way is getting ready to read word families such as -at.

Pictures that are easy to name

Every picture is one a young child would name with that word. The wrong answers on a row never share a vowel or a last letter with the right ones, so the row has one clear answer.

When to add the words

First do the page by ear. Later print the words under the pictures and look at how the rhyming words are spelled alike at the end.

Good questions

How do I type my own rhymes?

Choose “Type your own words”. Type one group of rhyming words on each line, such as: cat hat bat. Type two groups or more.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Leave “Answer key page” turned on and the key prints as the last page.

Can I get a different page each time?

Yes. Press “New version: mix it again” and the maker picks again.

Where do the pictures come from?

Every picture is one of our own hand-drawn crayon pictures. A picture is used as a question only where a young child would name it with that word.

Is it free?
