The reading skill

Finding the main idea means sorting what matters most from the small facts. It is a first step toward telling someone what a book was about.

How to start

After reading, ask what the page or the book was mostly about, and write that in the big box. Then look back in the text for two or three things that tell more about it.

For young readers

A beginner can say the answers and draw them while you write. The words on the organizer are for a grown-up to read.
