  3. Pick color or black and white.
  4. Read the shape words together first.

The reading skill

Shape words turn up in early math books and on classroom walls. Reading them and matching them to the shapes makes them words your child knows by sight.

Words a grown-up reads first

Many of these words, such as purple or triangle, cannot be sounded out by a beginner yet. Read the words together first. The picture then helps your child remember each word.

Pictures a child can name

On the matching and cut and stick pages a picture is the question, so only pictures a young child would name with that word are used. The other words are on the trace page and the read and color page, where the word is printed beside the picture.

Good questions

Which shape words are there?

Circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, diamond, star and heart.

Why are circle and oval not on the matching page?

A young child may call those pictures a ball or an egg, so they are on the trace page and the read and color page, where the word is printed beside the picture.

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
