Hide and seek word game maker

Read a word, then look behind it

Make a hide and seek word game. Print big word cards and a few small cards with one of our reading friends. Hide a small card behind a word while your child looks away. Your child reads a word out loud and looks behind it, and goes on until every friend is found.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set or type your own words.
  2. Choose six or eight word cards on a page.
  3. Choose how many small cards to hide.
  4. Print, cut and play at a pocket chart or on a table.

The reading skill

Each guess is one more word read out loud. Because the hiding place changes every round, the same words are read again and again without it feeling like practice.

Words at the right level

Use the word set your child is learning now: short vowel words, a word family, or a sight word list.

For a class

Put the cards in a pocket chart. One child guesses, the class reads the word together.
