Movement word card maker

Hop to the word and read it

Make floor cards for a reading game that gets children moving. Each page holds one very big word or letter, or two. Lay the pages on the floor, pick a move card and read it out: hop to the word, tiptoe to the word. Your child moves to a card and reads it out loud.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose words or letters.
  2. Pick a word set or type your own words.
  3. Choose one or two on a page, and keep the move cards if you want them.
  4. Print. Lay the pages on the floor with space between them.

The reading skill

Reading a word in very large print, from across the room, is the quick recognition that fluent reading needs. Moving between the words keeps a busy child in the game.

The move cards are for the grown-up

A grown-up reads the move cards out. They are plain words with no drawn poses, so any move works.

Hopscotch

Lay the pages in a hopscotch line. Your child reads each word before stepping on it.
