Copywork page maker

A sentence to read and copy on the lines

Make copywork pages. Each box has a model sentence on writing lines and one to three empty lines under it. Your child reads the sentence, then copies it. Pick ready sentences by phonics skill, so the sentence can be read as well as copied, or type your own.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick ready sentences by phonics skill, or type your own.
  2. Choose printed letters to copy, or dotted letters to trace first.
  3. Choose how many empty lines and how many sentences on a page.
  4. Print. Your child reads the sentence aloud before copying it.

The reading skill

Copying a sentence a child can read ties reading to handwriting. The eyes go back to each word, which is one more careful read of it.

Sentences that can be sounded out

The ready sentences were checked by hand: each set uses words of one phonics skill and a few sight words.

What to look for

A capital letter at the start, a finger space between words, letters that sit on the line, and a mark at the end.
