How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose a sentence start, type your own, or leave it out.
  2. Choose a word bank by topic, or type your own words.
  3. Choose a drawing box and the number of lines.
  4. Print. Talk about the picture words, then let your child write.

The reading skill

A word bank is reading with a purpose: the child reads each word to find the one they want to write. The picture beside it helps a beginner check the word.

A grown-up reads the start

The sentence start is for you to read together. Your child copies it and finishes the sentence in their own words.

Draw first

Many young writers think better with a crayon. Draw, talk about the drawing, then write one sentence about it.
