Alphabet paper chain maker

Link the letters in order

Make an alphabet paper chain. Each strip carries one letter, capital and small, with a picture for its sound and a number. Your child cuts out the strips and glues them into rings in order, saying each letter. Type a name or a word and the chain spells it.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Type the letters you want, or choose A to Z.
  2. Choose color or black and white, and a design.
  3. Print. You need scissors and a glue stick or a stapler.

The reading skill

Knowing each letter by sight, with its sound, is the first step of reading. Putting the letters in order, one link at a time, practices the alphabet and the letters of a name. Under the letter is its capital and small form, a picture that starts with its sound, and the word to read together.

Hands busy, eyes on the letter

Small hand work keeps a young child with one letter for several minutes. Say the sound of the letter together while the hands are busy, and again at the end.

Made of plain shapes

The letter is drawn with plain squares, circles and our own letter strokes. Nothing on the page needs a special set: use what you have at home.
