Alphabet mini book maker

One letter, one sheet, one little book

Make a little book for one letter of the alphabet. One sheet of paper folds into eight small pages: a big letter to trace with a finger, three hand-drawn pictures that start with its sound, a page to find the letter and a page to write it. Type the letters you want, or print all 26.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Type the letter or letters you are working on. Each letter gets its own book.
  2. Choose what goes under each picture: the letter, or the word with the letter underlined.
  3. Print at full size on one side of the paper.
  4. Fold and cut the sheet as the last page shows. A grown-up does the one cut.

The reading skill

Each page links the shape of a letter to its sound. Your child traces the letter, says the sound, and says the name of a picture that starts with that sound. That link is the first step in learning to read.

Pictures a child can name

Each book uses up to three of our own crayon pictures that a young child would name with a word that starts with the sound. For x the pictures end with the sound, as in box.

A book to keep

A finished book is small enough for a pocket. Read it again the next day and color a star on the back each time.

Good questions

Which sound does each letter get?

The usual first sound: a as in apple, c as in cat, g as in gum. The letter q is shown with pictures that start with qu, such as queen.

What if there are fewer than three pictures for a letter?

The page gets a box to draw in, with a line that says what to draw.

How do I fold it?

Turn on “A page that shows how to fold it”. It has five short steps and one cut.

Can I print in black and white?

Yes. Choose “Black and white” under “Print in”. Every picture becomes a line drawing your child can color in.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.

More than worksheets

Does this sound like your child?

“Does not know the letter sounds, or learns them and forgets them”
