Sound games script maker

Five days of three-minute games for the ears

Make a script of sound games to play out loud. Each day has five quick questions: do two words rhyme, what is the first sound, blend the sounds into a word, break a word into sounds, clap the parts. The answers are printed at the end of each line. It takes about three minutes a day and needs no pencil.

The reading skill

Hearing and moving the sounds inside words is called phonemic awareness. It is the skill under sounding out, and a few minutes a day of games builds it.

Words from our checked lists

The words to blend and break apart are three-letter words from our checked lists. The rhymes and the words to clap come from our checked picture tables.

For the grown-up

This page is a script for you. The child listens and answers; there is nothing for the child to read. Use the sounds of the letters, not their names.
