Sequencing worksheet maker

First, next, last: tell a story in order

Make a sequencing worksheet. Your child tells a story in order with first, next and last boxes to draw in and lines to write on. Or type two to four sentences of a story: they print mixed up, and your child reads them, cuts them out and glues them in order.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose draw and write, or cut and glue typed sentences.
  2. For drawing, choose two, three or four boxes and the number of lines.
  3. For cutting, type one short sentence on each line.
  4. Print. Talk through the story before your child starts.

The reading skill

Putting events in order is the heart of retelling. A child who can say what came first, next and last has understood the story.

Use it after a book

Read a story, close the book, and ask what came first. Draw it. Then next, then last.

Sentences your child can read

For the cut and glue page, type sentences made of words your child can sound out. The ones in the box when you open the page are short words only.

Good questions

How many sentences can I type?

Two to four. Each one prints on its own strip.

Can I use it for a recipe or a routine?

Can I print in black and white?

Yes. Choose “Black and white” under “Print in”. Every picture becomes a line drawing your child can color in.

Is it free?
