Poem of the week page maker

A short rhyme to read all week

Print a poem page for the week. Each of our 13 short rhymes is written with words a beginner can sound out, in three levels. Under the poem are three small jobs: read it three times, circle the words that rhyme, and draw a picture. You can also type any poem you like.

Your worksheet:

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a poem, or type your own.
  2. Choose whether you want the jobs and the drawing box.
  3. Print.
  4. Read the poem together on Monday. By Friday your child reads it alone.

The reading skill

A rhyme read every day for a week becomes smooth and sure. Finding the words that rhyme makes a child look at how the ends of words are spelled.

Poems that can be sounded out

Every word of our poems comes from our checked word lists for its level, plus the first sight words. They are original and written for these pages.

A poetry folder

Keep each week’s page in a folder. Old poems are good, easy reading for a spare five minutes.
