The reading skill

Looking hard at a word, saying it and writing it from memory fixes its letters in mind. A word a child can spell is a word they read without stopping.

Say the sounds

For a word that can be sounded out, say its sounds while looking. For a sight word, say the letter names. Then cover it.

Check it yourself

Children check their own work by opening the fold. A mark goes in the box when the word is right.
