How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type up to eight words.
  2. Print the three pages.
  3. Fold the sides of a file folder in to the middle.
  4. Cut out the pieces and glue them in, as the first page shows.

The reading skill

The same eight words are read four ways: on a card, on a flap, in a list, and out loud to someone. Seeing a word many times in small doses is how it sticks.

Plain shapes on purpose

The pieces are plain boxes with fold and cut lines, so the words stand out and the child does the decorating.

One list at a time

A word family such as -at makes a good first lapbook. Make a new one when the words change.
