How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type them.
  2. Choose a grid of 25 or 36 boxes.
  3. Print the board. Find counters in two colors.
  4. Read, cover, and try for four in a row.

The reading skill

A box can only be covered after its word is read out loud. Planning a line means looking ahead and reading the words around it too.

A short list goes a long way

A list with fewer words than boxes is used again, so each word is on the board several times.

No counters?

Use two colors of crayon and mark the boxes with X and O.
