Make a connect the path board filled with words. Each player has a crayon. On a turn, a player reads a word out loud and colors its box. One player builds a path from side to side and the other from top to bottom. The first path across wins.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Pick a word set, or choose “Type your own words” and type them.
  2. Choose a grid of 25 or 36 boxes.
  3. Print the board. Each player takes a crayon of a different color.
  4. Read, color, and block the other path.

The reading skill

Every box is a word to read out loud before it is colored. Blocking the other player means reading the words on their path as well.

A thinking game

Players have to plan a few boxes ahead, which keeps older children keen while the reading stays simple.

Can I use my own words?

Yes. Choose “Type your own words” at the top of the word list and type them. What you type stays on your device.

How does a path count?

Its boxes have to touch side to side. Corners do not count.

How many players?

Two.

Yes. Choose “Black and white” under “Print in”. Every picture becomes a line drawing your child can color in.
