Trace the shape, trace its name, count its sides
Make a shapes worksheet. Your child traces each shape on a dashed line and then traces its name in dotted letters. On the sides and corners page each shape is counted and the numbers are written in boxes. On the find and count page twenty shapes are mixed together to find, count and write down. The solid shapes are here too: cube, sphere, cone and cylinder, with a page that mixes flat and solid shapes.
Your worksheet:
A side is counted when it is straight. So a triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners, a square and a rectangle have 4 and 4, and a circle and an oval have none. The harder set adds a pentagon with 5 and a hexagon with 6.
A flat shape, such as a circle, lies on the paper. A solid shape, such as a ball, is one you could hold. For the solid shapes the page asks for flat faces: a cube has 6, a cylinder has 2, a cone has 1 and a sphere has none.
Tracing the name under the shape ties the word your child says to the letters that spell it.
Circle, square, triangle and rectangle first. Then oval, diamond, star and heart. The sides and corners page uses a pentagon and a hexagon in place of the star and the heart. The solid shapes are cube, sphere, cone and cylinder.
