Pattern block mats

Cover the picture with pattern blocks

Make pattern block mats. Each mat is a picture made only of pattern block shapes: hexagons, trapezoids, diamonds, triangles and squares. Your child covers each shape with the matching block until the picture is full. Print one mat or all six.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose a mat, or all six.
  2. Print it at full size, so the shapes match real blocks.
  3. Put the blocks on the shapes. Count them at the end.

Shapes and space

Matching a block to its outline means turning it until it fits. That is the same skill children use later to put shapes together and take them apart.
