A short story, pictures to count, a number sentence
Make simple word problems. Each page has three short stories: Sam has 4 apples. Sam gets 2 more. How many apples does Sam have now? Under the story are the pictures to count and a number sentence with empty boxes. Choose adding, taking away or a mix, within 10 or 20.
Your worksheet:
A beginner cannot read every word of a story problem yet, so read it aloud, twice. The thinking is the math: does the story end with more, or with fewer?
The empty number sentence under each story is the bridge from words to numbers. Fill in the two numbers from the story first, then the answer.
A grown-up, or the child and the grown-up together. The page says so at the top.
