Who, what, where question card maker

A picture and three questions to talk about

Make who, what, where question cards. Each card shows one of our small crayon scenes, such as feeding the dog, baking cookies or story time, with three questions beside it: Who is in the picture? What is happening? Where is it? A grown-up reads the questions and your child answers in whole sentences.

How to make your worksheet

  2. Keep the question cards, or choose the page to write a sentence.
  3. Print and cut the cards apart.
  4. Read the questions out and talk about each picture.

The reading skill

Who, what and where are the first questions of understanding a story. Answering them about a picture, in whole sentences, is practice for answering them about a book.

Questions a grown-up reads

The three questions are for the grown-up to read out. On the writing page the start of the sentence and the three words in the box are words a beginner can sound out, or sight words from our first two sets.

Twelve small scenes

Feed the dog, Read under a tree, Bake cookies, On the swing, Plant flowers, Build a sandcastle, Brush the horse, Read with Grandma, Ride a bike, Story time, Wash the dishes, Family dinner.
