Look, talk and write page maker

Talk about the picture, then write one sentence

Make a picture writing page. Your child looks at one of our small crayon scenes and talks about who is in it, what is happening and where. Then the start of a sentence is traced, such as “I feed the”, and finished on the lines. A box of three short words helps with spelling.

The reading skill

Who, what and where are the first questions of understanding a story. Answering them about a picture, in whole sentences, is practice for answering them about a book.

Questions a grown-up reads

The three questions are for the grown-up to read out. On the writing page the start of the sentence and the three words in the box are words a beginner can sound out, or sight words from our first two sets.

Twelve small scenes

Feed the dog, Read under a tree, Bake cookies, On the swing, Plant flowers, Build a sandcastle, Brush the horse, Read with Grandma, Ride a bike, Story time, Wash the dishes, Family dinner.

Good questions

Can my child read the sentence start?

Yes, if short vowel words, a few long vowel words and the first sight words are known. Every word of the start and of the word box is a checked word.

What if my child wants to write something else?

Good. The start is a help, not a rule.

Where do the pictures come from?

Every picture is one of our own hand-drawn crayon pictures.

Can I print in black and white?

Yes. Choose “Black and white” under “Print in”. Every picture becomes a line drawing your child can color in.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
