Color by number worksheet maker

Color the squares by the key and a picture appears

Make a color by number page. Every square of the grid holds a number, and the key says which color each number gets. When the squares are colored, a picture appears: a heart, a fish, a house, a rocket and more. For older children the squares hold sums to work out first.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose what goes in the squares: numbers, adding or taking away.
  2. For sums, choose answers up to 10 or up to 20.
  3. Pick a picture, or let the page pick one as a surprise.
  4. Print. Press “New version” for new sums.

How the key works

Each color of the picture has one number. With numbers, the square shows that number. With sums, the square shows a sum or a take-away whose answer is that number, so every square has exactly one right color.

Which crayons are needed

Each picture uses three to five of these: red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, brown, pink and black. The key on the page names them.

Good questions

Which pictures are there?

A heart, a fish, a house, a flower, an apple tree, a butterfly, a rocket and an apple. Choose “A surprise” to keep the picture a secret.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Turn on “Answer key page”.

Does it work in black and white?

Yes. The key prints the name of each color beside an empty circle, so the page needs no color ink.

What ages is it for?

Numbers suit ages 4 and 5. Adding and taking away within 10 suit kindergarten, and within 20 first grade.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
